On the other hand, eating the right foods can give you the boost you need to go toe-to-toe with your opponent and come out on top. So, what should you eat—and more importantly, what should you avoid? 1. Avoid processed foods.

Processed foods are loaded with sugar, salt, and unhealthy fats that can wreak havoc on your body—and your boxing performance. Stay away from sugary snacks like candy bars and cake, as well as salty junk food like chips and pretzels. These types of foods will only make you feel sluggish and weighed down when it’s time to step into the ring.

It’s important to have a hearty meal before a big event like a boxing match, but that doesn’t mean you should stuff yourself until you’re ready to burst at the seams.
